From Forest to Form

The story begins in Washington, where a close friend offered me the opportunity to harvest wood from his property. Together, we carefully selected six or seven alder trees, which I took to a small mill to be sliced and prepared. The drying process, however, proved to be a challenge. Without proper airflow, some of the wood developed mildew, but I managed to salvage a significant portion, enough to create this stunning vessel.

Lessons in Craftsmanship

Despite the initial setbacks, the wood I preserved dried beautifully, allowing me to craft this piece. Its rich tones and smooth finish are complemented by the inclusion of black walnut, creating a harmonious blend of textures and colors.

A Refined Process

Learning from my early challenges, I improved my drying methods. With a new batch of alder transported to Utah, I ensured proper circulation and care, resulting in flawless material for future creations.

A Testament to Nature and Dedication

The Alder Vessel with Black Walnut is more than just a functional or decorative item—it’s a symbol of perseverance and a deep connection to the natural world. Each detail reflects the journey from the forests of Washington to its final form, capturing the beauty of craftsmanship and nature combined.
